Moorooka Water Filtration Systems

Residents of Moorooka often contact PBS Plumbing to fix their homes’ water. The water is typically treated by the municipality and deemed safe, but the water supply does have sediment, chlorine, and minerals that build up over time and affect appliances and the plumbing system.

To provide the most effective solution, PBS Plumbing will conduct a thorough test on your water source to measure taste and smell, determine water hardness, and see how the water reacts with your appliances and plumbing system. Once the test has been completed, PBS Plumbing will make recommendations on a filtration system that meets your needs, whether that is for improved drinking water or to protect appliances from excess wear. All systems are installed by experienced, licensed plumbers who will walk you through all aspects of the system and devise a maintenance plan for continued efficiency.

Twin vs Triple Filter System

Individuals on mains water usually don’t get much visible sediment (compared to individuals relying on tank water, for example); however, ultra-fine particles (i.e., particles that are smaller than 100 micron, the width of a human hair) can clog up carbon filters much quicker than anticipated and reduce water pressure. The issue of elevated sediment is especially prevalent in areas with known water quality issues or an influx of sediment; for example, due to public works, flooding, and drought, which are all common causes of elevated total suspended solids levels in mains water. So, whilst carbon filters do block sediment and it is possible to run a dual carbon system, consider whether a triple filter system with a sediment pre-filter and dual carbon set-up is more suitable.

Dual Carbon
Dual carbon will give the best result for reducing the maximum amount of chemicals on a whole house scale on mains water. The combination of filters we most commonly recommend is the maximum chemical reduction combination, which consists of:

Filter 1: 5 Micron sediment filter
Filter 2: 20 Micron low pressure drop coconut carbon – reduces chlorine without compromising on water pressure
Filter 3: Your choice of carbon block:
0.5 Micron chloramine reduction coconut carbon – composed of catalytic carbon, which has exceptional adsorption abilities (and can help to reduce chloramine, unlike standard activated carbon, which requires a longer contact time to reduce this chemical)
0.5 Micron lead (heavy metals) reduction coconut carbon – if you don’t get chloramine in your water source, consider this cartridge for the added benefit of reduced lead and other heavy metals

Supports Detoxification

Filtered water helps the body flush out toxins and waste products more effectively.

Removal of Contaminants

Removes harmful contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals, pesticides, bacteria and viruses.

Better Digestive Health

Contributes to better digestive health by reducing the intake of contaminants and potential pathogens.

Environmental Sustainability

Reduces plastic waste from bottles and packaging, minimising ecological impact.

Enhanced Nutrient Absorption

Better absorption of essential nutrients and vitamins, aiding in overall nutrient uptake.

Improved Hydration

Filtered water tastes better, which can encourage people to drink more water overall.

Mitigation of Chronic Diseases

Long- term consumption of clean, filtered water may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Mitigation of Waterborne Diseases

Removes bacteria, viruses, and parasites, reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses.

Healthier Skin & Hair

Improves skin and hair health by reducing exposure to harmful chemicals and contaminants.

Alleviation of Allergies

Removing chlorine and potential allergens from water can benefit individuals with sensitivities.

Benefits Of Our Filtration

Investing in a filtration system is a boon for your family’s health and well-being. By ensuring clean water, filtration systems shield your loved ones from harmful contaminants, fostering a safer environment at home. With purified water, hydration becomes more refreshing and beneficial, improving your internal health (such as digestive health) and external appearance (healthier skin and hair). Ultimately, such systems promote a healthier lifestyle, offering peace of mind and a safer haven for your family to thrive in.

The 3-stage Water Filtration System

The 3-stage water filtration system is a popular system for Moorooka residents. This system treats multiple water quality issues within one filtration unit, including sediment, chlorine, and heavy metals.

Stage 1 – Sediment Filter

In the first stage of the system, a sediment filter is used to remove sand, rust, grit, and fine particles before they enter your pipes. By capturing sediment at this point, you will prevent blockages and damage to pipes and appliances and decrease the likelihood of excess wear and tear on your appliances.

Stage 2 – Water Softener

The second stage of this system is a water softener that takes out the majority of the minerals that cause hard water, including calcium and magnesium ions. Softening your water helps you to avoid build-up in your systems, prolongs the lifespan of machines (hot water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines), and will make it much easier for you to clean your home.

Stage 3 – KDF/GAC Filter

In stage 3 of the 3 phase system, KDF media combined with Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) removes chlorine, heavy metals, and other organic contaminants commonly found in municipal water supplies. KDF/GAC also reduces the growth of bacteria and improves the taste and odour of the treated water. The KDF/GAC filtration method can be used for both whole-house systems and filter systems under the sink.
