Fig Tree Pocket, Water Filtration Systems

PBS Plumbing offers custom-made household water filtration systems throughout Fig Tree Pocket. With these systems, residents have access to clean, healthier and better-tasting water every day. While the area’s water source is treated to meet standard regulations, many homes in the area experience issues with mineral residue on their fixtures, have a chlorine taste to their water, and/or find that their water feels harsh against their skin and/or hair.

To determine the best water filtration system for your family, we first perform a complete assessment of your home’s water quality. This includes assessing the taste, hardness of the water and examining how the water you have affects your plumbing and appliances. After assessing all of these components, we design a unique filtration system for your home to meet your priorities.

Our licensed master plumbers will install your new system, walk you through the operation of your new filtration system, and create a plan for future service so you do not have any concerns about sudden drops in performance.

Twin vs Triple Filter System

Individuals on mains water usually don’t get much visible sediment (compared to individuals relying on tank water, for example); however, ultra-fine particles (i.e., particles that are smaller than 100 micron, the width of a human hair) can clog up carbon filters much quicker than anticipated and reduce water pressure. The issue of elevated sediment is especially prevalent in areas with known water quality issues or an influx of sediment; for example, due to public works, flooding, and drought, which are all common causes of elevated total suspended solids levels in mains water. So, whilst carbon filters do block sediment and it is possible to run a dual carbon system, consider whether a triple filter system with a sediment pre-filter and dual carbon set-up is more suitable.

Dual Carbon
Dual carbon will give the best result for reducing the maximum amount of chemicals on a whole house scale on mains water. The combination of filters we most commonly recommend is the maximum chemical reduction combination, which consists of:

Filter 1: 5 Micron sediment filter
Filter 2: 20 Micron low pressure drop coconut carbon – reduces chlorine without compromising on water pressure
Filter 3: Your choice of carbon block:
0.5 Micron chloramine reduction coconut carbon – composed of catalytic carbon, which has exceptional adsorption abilities (and can help to reduce chloramine, unlike standard activated carbon, which requires a longer contact time to reduce this chemical)
0.5 Micron lead (heavy metals) reduction coconut carbon – if you don’t get chloramine in your water source, consider this cartridge for the added benefit of reduced lead and other heavy metals

Three-Stage Water Filtration Systems in Fig Tree Pocket

The three-stage water filtration system is one of the most commonly installed filtration systems in homes throughout Fig Tree Pocket, as it effectively treats most of the common water quality issues found in the area, including sediment, chlorine taste and smell, and traces of heavy metals.

1. Sediment Filter

The first stage of the three-stage filtration system is a sediment filter, which provides the first line of defence against sand, rust, silt and other fine particles entering your plumbing system. Over time, these particles can build up inside your pipes, reduce the flow of water, damage fixtures, and reduce the efficiency of your appliances. By installing the sediment filter as your first stage, it will prevent sediment from accumulating in your plumbing system, therefore providing protection for the entire plumbing system and allowing for continual water flow.

2. Water Softener

Hard water minerals, like calcium and magnesium, can create a build-up of scale on sink taps, shower screens, etc., on appliances. Through the use of a water softener, these hard water minerals will be reduced, which will allow for less effort required during cleanup and also will make the water feel softer against your skin, hair and body. Also, the reduction of the mineral build-up inside hot water systems, dishwashers and washing machines will increase the longevity of these appliances.

3. KDF/GAC Filter

The third stage of the three-stage filtration system contains a combination of the Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) medium, combined with Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC). This combination has excellent performance for decreasing chlorine, heavy metals (such as lead and copper), and volatile organic compounds. Additionally, this combination will limit bacteria and improve the taste and smell of the water. KDF/GAC filtration systems is suitable for either whole-house or under-sink filtration.
