Water Filtration Systems in Chermside
Many Chermside residents contact PBS Plumbing for assistance when their water supply begins to cause problems in their day-to-day lives, such as having a strong chlorine odour or leaving deposits on their sanitary appliances or not performing well. While the municipality does treat the water and adheres to guidelines established by health authorities, many people find that even with treated municipal water, it will still contain sediments, organic materials, and flavours. In addition, the water will interact with their internal piping systems and appliances and potentially cause problems.Â
PBS Plumbing will evaluate your home’s water supply to determine what problems exist. This will include an assessment of the taste of your water, the hardness of your water, and how your water interacts with your water-using appliances and plumbing systems. From this evaluation, PBS Plumbing will provide you with recommendations for installing a water filtration system that best fits your family’s needs. PBS Plumbing installs all water filtration systems by licensed master plumbers who will explain to you how your filtration system will work, as well as provide you with maintenance support, allowing you to feel comfortable that your filtration system will perform as expected for many years.
Twin vs Triple Filter System
Individuals on mains water usually don’t get much visible sediment (compared to individuals relying on tank water, for example); however, ultra-fine particles (i.e., particles that are smaller than 100 micron, the width of a human hair) can clog up carbon filters much quicker than anticipated and reduce water pressure. The issue of elevated sediment is especially prevalent in areas with known water quality issues or an influx of sediment; for example, due to public works, flooding, and drought, which are all common causes of elevated total suspended solids levels in mains water. So, whilst carbon filters do block sediment and it is possible to run a dual carbon system, consider whether a triple filter system with a sediment pre-filter and dual carbon set-up is more suitable.
Dual Carbon
Dual carbon will give the best result for reducing the maximum amount of chemicals on a whole house scale on mains water. The combination of filters we most commonly recommend is the maximum chemical reduction combination, which consists of:
Filter 1: 5 Micron sediment filter
Filter 2: 20 Micron low pressure drop coconut carbon – reduces chlorine without compromising on water pressure
Filter 3: Your choice of carbon block:
0.5 Micron chloramine reduction coconut carbon – composed of catalytic carbon, which has exceptional adsorption abilities (and can help to reduce chloramine, unlike standard activated carbon, which requires a longer contact time to reduce this chemical)
0.5 Micron lead (heavy metals) reduction coconut carbon – if you don’t get chloramine in your water source, consider this cartridge for the added benefit of reduced lead and other heavy metals
Benefits Of Our Filtration
Investing in a filtration system is a boon for your family’s health and well-being. By ensuring clean water, filtration systems shield your loved ones from harmful contaminants, fostering a safer environment at home. With purified water, hydration becomes more refreshing and beneficial, improving your internal health (such as digestive health) and external appearance (healthier skin and hair). Ultimately, such systems promote a healthier lifestyle, offering peace of mind and a safer haven for your family to thrive in.
Three-Stage Water Filtration System
A 3-stage water purification system is a popular choice for Chermside homes, as this type of system provides a comprehensive solution to many water quality-related issues, including removing sediment, chlorine and traces of heavy metals from municipal water supplies.
Stage 1: Sediment Filter
The first stage consists of a sediment filter that will trap all sand, rust, grit and fine particles in the water before it enters your home. Trapping sediments at the earliest possible time will reduce the chance of blockage and will reduce wear and tear on your appliances.
Stage 2: Water Softener
The second stage of the water filtration process is to use a water softening system to remove calcium and magnesium, which are responsible for hardening water. By removing calcium and magnesium from the water, the water becomes softer, and scale formation on faucets and inside appliances will be reduced. Softer water will also make it easier to clean appliances and will prolong the life of hot water systems, dishwashers and washing machines.
Stage 3: KDF/GAC Filter
The final stage will combine KDF media and granular activated carbon to reduce chlorine, heavy metals and organic substances found in municipal water supplies. This stage will also reduce the growth of bacteria and improve the overall taste and smell of your water supply. KDF/GAC filtration systems are available for use in both whole-home filters and under-sink filter setups.
