Water Filtration Solutions in Oxley

PBS Plumbing provides quality water filtration options for Oxley’s residential community, as well as support services to eliminate some of the most common problems that households experience with water quality, including sedimentation due to main plumbing work, chlorine odour and mineral deposits that accumulate over time on the inside of pipes and appliances with the potential to cause long-term damage.

In assessing your water supply, we analyse various characteristics of your water. Every home has its own requirements for water based on a variety of factors like taste, hardness, etc. We take all of those into consideration and use them to create a custom water filter for your home.

We install systems by licensed master plumbers who will provide complete information on how to use and care for the system so that it has long-term reliability.

Twin vs Triple Filter System

Individuals on mains water usually don’t get much visible sediment (compared to individuals relying on tank water, for example); however, ultra-fine particles (i.e., particles that are smaller than 100 micron, the width of a human hair) can clog up carbon filters much quicker than anticipated and reduce water pressure. The issue of elevated sediment is especially prevalent in areas with known water quality issues or an influx of sediment; for example, due to public works, flooding, and drought, which are all common causes of elevated total suspended solids levels in mains water. So, whilst carbon filters do block sediment and it is possible to run a dual carbon system, consider whether a triple filter system with a sediment pre-filter and dual carbon set-up is more suitable.

Dual Carbon
Dual carbon will give the best result for reducing the maximum amount of chemicals on a whole house scale on mains water. The combination of filters we most commonly recommend is the maximum chemical reduction combination, which consists of:

Filter 1: 5 Micron sediment filter
Filter 2: 20 Micron low pressure drop coconut carbon – reduces chlorine without compromising on water pressure
Filter 3: Your choice of carbon block:
0.5 Micron chloramine reduction coconut carbon – composed of catalytic carbon, which has exceptional adsorption abilities (and can help to reduce chloramine, unlike standard activated carbon, which requires a longer contact time to reduce this chemical)
0.5 Micron lead (heavy metals) reduction coconut carbon – if you don’t get chloramine in your water source, consider this cartridge for the added benefit of reduced lead and other heavy metals

Three-Stage Filtration System

PBS Plumbing’s three-stage water filtration system is the most commonly installed type of filtration system in Oxley, due to its ability to treat multiple types of water quality concerns at once.

Stage 1: Sediment Filter

The first step of our three-part water filter system is the sediment filter. This filter traps all sediment before it gets into your pipes. If sediment is not removed, it can obstruct your pipes and lead to plumbing failure. When the sediment is captured at this point, your plumbing will be in excellent working condition, and your filter will protect your plumbing appliances from unnecessary strain on their internal parts.

Stage 2: Water Softener

Water that is “hard” contains a high concentration of mineral deposits that can eventually develop on the internal parts of your water-using appliance. This results in hard to clean residue left on plumbing fixtures. A water softener removes those minerals, making the water softer to work with when cleaning and providing an overall nicer experience when taking a shower or washing dishes.

Stage 3: KDF/GAC Filter

This final filtration stage targets contaminants commonly found in municipal tap water sources, including chlorine, heavy metals, and organic materials. The combination of KDF and GAC filters also improves taste and odour and reduces the likelihood of bacteria growth, providing you with clean, pure water throughout your entire home.
